Shipping Fabric to the U.S.: What to Know About Tariffs & Duties

Border City Fabrics continues to ship fabric and sewing supplies to customers across the United States, with applicable tariffs and duties calculated upfront before checkout.

There’s been a lot of talk recently about new U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods, so we wanted to share a quick update for our American customers.

The good news: we are still shipping to the United States, and the new tariffs on Canadian-origin goods do not apply to most of the products we sell.

Tariffs are generally based on where a product is manufactured, not from where it ships. Many of the fabrics and sewing supplies we carry are manufactured outside Canada, so they continue to be assessed under their regular U.S. tariff classification.

For example, the majority of our quilting cottons are manufactured in South Korea and Japan and assessed at around 12.5%, depending on the exact fabric and classification. Unfortunately, some apparel fabrics can be much higher. 

When you shop with Border City Fabrics, applicable tariffs and duties are calculated and collected upfront at checkout. You’ll be able to review those charges before completing your purchase, so there should be no surprise bill waiting for you when your order arrives.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on changes to cross-border shipping, but for now, U.S. orders are open and shipping as usual.
